We are lucky enough to cover an industry in which one of the news making factors are the ability of start-ups with awesome new technologies to engage the crowd to seek funding. Every once in a while we come across a concept, piece of software or hardware that makes our job the best in the world. We are often approached by small companies who are interested in out take on their products, we are sent plenty of duds but occasionally we get sent a real winner.
This is the case with HeavyOnion.com submission of their Point-of-Reception service App and Port. This mobile app and product solves one of the last remaining problems with ordering online vs. visiting a store, The Last Mile. We have all been there, waiting home for the delivery, missing the delivery or worrying that a package left will be gone by the time we get home.
The simplicity and brilliance of this project has us touting their concept as one that must receive the funding they require. More information can be found on the crowdfunding campaign being hosted on FundAnything.
Here are some excerpts from the campaign and the note we received from the companies founder, Chris Moudy.
“Our PORT is superior to other options available due to cold cases for perishables, groceries and medicine. The unattended, secure pass-through units allow deliveries when you are not present at home, business or anywhere. Saves time, money and fuel.”
“This is a good thing for various groups of people, like home bound people with limited mobility, seniors and recovering patients. Farmers can buy and sell direct through it, these are our plans for the test market system. This empowers shoppers to vote with their dollar for organic preferences over unregulated GMO’s.
To encourage donations for these reasons and challenge farmers to sell direct. This system will change the way people locate fresher, local grown and sourced foods.”
