My sister is going through a legal battle with her ex over custody of their children and does not have enough money to cover all of the legal fees. I have helped her out as much as I can but I do not have the cash flow to help out much more either.
My sister has three children who love her very much and are loved by her. She lives in IL and my mother, my wife, and myself are all up here as well and spend as much time with kids as we can doing fun activities and spending family time together.
Last summer the kids were staying at their fathers and during that time he filed for an emergency custody petition that for some reason was granted even though there were no grounds to file it in the first place. Since then my sister has gone to multiple court dates at the court near her ex and the case was dismissed in her favor.
She was then able to take her children home, although for the good of her children she let them stay down there to finish out the first half of the school year, even though all she wanted to do was take them home.
Since then he filed a petition in the state and county she lives in and after only two weeks of the kids being home she was ordered to send the kids back down to live with her ex so they could finish out the school year, which was devastating for her and the kids.
Since then there have been numerous court dates in which she represented herself at first because none of us had enough money to hire a lawyer. She finally was able to hire one but by then she was behind the game since her ex's lawyer had pretty much bashed her as much as she could and taken advantage of the fact that she did not have a lawyer.
Now she is fighting for custody of the children that have lived with her their entire lives and want nothing more than to be with her again.
I cannot go into details since there is a legal battle going on but I would like to say that the children's father was not involved in their lives much before last summer and would not even come up to visit them. My sister would have to take them to him so they could see their father. The court is allowing him to keep them for now.
My sister is a great mom and her three kids are the most important part of her life. She has been a single mother for years and has done a great job taking care of three children while attending college and working. She now works two jobs and is struggling to get by while paying excessive legal fees. The only negative that her ex and his lawyer are trying to use to convince the court that she is an unfit mother is the fact that she has moved twice to get her bachelor degree.
Anything you can give to help with her legal fees would be much appreciated. Prayers are always appreciated as well.
